Mentor Graduation
The ASTD San Diego award-winning Mentor Program is currently in its 14th year of pairing Mentors and Protégés to help build skills and enhance relationships. The Mentorship Program provides opportunities for all ASTD members, from rookies to veterans, to learn, develop skills, and network in a supportive environment.
This year we are successfully graduating 6 pairs that have been working on specific goals for the last 6 months. This is a highly motivated group who has already shared success stories and goal achievement through this amazing program.
After the Mentor Graduation, join four local authors in a exhillirating round table session. Each author will be assigned to a table and will facilitate a brief group discussion and Q & A pertaining to their topic of expertise. Participants will be able to move from table to table and participate in each of the group discussions. Book purchases and signings will be available throughout the event.
Author's Round Table
Below are the four local authors (in alphabetical order) who will share their publications and facilitate insightful and stimulating discussions during the Round Table segment of our meeting:

Supported Self Development®: How Managers Can Use the Skills They Have to Develop Their Employees
Many managers are uncomfortable when it comes to developing their employees. Most don’t realize they already have the skills to accomplish this important work. Supported Self-Development shows them how. It also gives HR professionals a practical tool to assist the managers they support. The book presents a practical method for developing employees that is brief and easy to understand and apply. Jargon and theory are translated into straightforward language; familiar concepts such as project management and SMART goals are used to facilitate understanding and application. Examples and tools are provided. Conversations between a manager and direct reports are used to bring this material to life. Find more information at supportedselfdevelopment.com.

Denise Lee Yohn
Book:
What Great Brands Do: The Seven Brand-Building Principles that Separate the Best from the Rest
You know what a strong brand looks like. You recognize it every time you pay a premium for a certain type of frozen yogurt, or whenever a friend insists on flying with a favorite airline.
Companies that are rock stars at brand-building – like Starbucks, Apple, Lululemon, and Shake Shack – not only fuel the most passionate responses from customers but also enjoy:
• Fast rates of growth
• Distinct and attractive corporate cultures
• Higher profit margins than their competitors
So why do other companies keep missing out on these benefits and wasting advertising dollars that fail to help them reach their brands’ full potential? The answer is that too many business leaders view brand-building as subjective, discrete, and experimental.
That’s where Denise Lee Yohn comes in, to turn this mindset on its head. Twenty-five years of experience with such world-class brands as Sony, Frito-Lay, Nautica, and Burger King have made Denise a sought-after expert and an electrifying speaker. Denise demystifies the brand-building process and empowers managers to revitalize and strengthen their brands.
